On February 9th the Lady Lions took on the Falcons of Davis College in their last regular season game of this year. The Falcons are currently the top ranked team in the HVIAC conference, so the Lady Lions knew they had a tough game ahead of them.
The Lady Lions struggled to get in a rhythm and would only have one quarter with a score in the double-digits. The Falcons set the pace in the first quarter outscoring the Lady Lions by 17 points. The half concluded with the Lady Lions down 35-11.
At halftime the Lady Lions went over their offensive and defensive plays, which helped them keep the Falcons from scoring double-digits in the third quarter. The Lady Lions would have their best showing this game, in the fourth quarter putting up 11 points, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Falcons, dropping 63-25.
Although the Lady Lions struggled offensively, they achieved their goals of playing great defense and minimizing turnovers. Sophomore Catie Shoemaker snatched 8 rebounds, sophomore Bailey Kaufman grabbed 7 rebounds, freshman Emmaline Waller and senior Megan LeBlanc took down 4 rebounds each, freshman Hannah Gillihan grabbed 3 rebounds, while sophomore Sha Sanders took down 2 for the Lady Lions
Shoemaker scored 6 points and dished 2 assists. Kaufman also put up 6 points, had 4 steals, and 3 assists. Waller put up 6 points as well, had 1 steal and 1 assist. LeBlanc put up 4 points for the Lady Lions, had 2 assists, and made 1 block. Sanders added 3 points, 2 steals, and 1 assist.
NEXT UP: The Lady Lions will be heading the the HVIAC Championships, facing the Falcons of Davis College again on Saturday February 16th at the College of New Rochelle(1:00pm).
